What is the Kowari Recovery Team?

While Team Kowari’s purpose is to promote awareness and raise funds for the kowari, many of its members are also involved in a separate Kowari Recovery Team. This is a formally recognised team that aims to promote the conservation actions necessary for the recovery of kowaris, through sharing information, facilitating collaboration, and coordinating advice. This team is made up of researchers and other stakeholders involved in kowari conservation, including representatives from the organisations listed below.

What are the objectives of the Kowari Recovery Team?

  1. Develop strategies and guide conservation planning for kowaris
  2. Identify priority conservation actions for implementation
  3. Foster and enable the implementation of conservation actions
  4. Generate opportunities for collaboration on kowari recovery
  5. Help facilitate the involvement of indigenous people and traditional knowledge in kowari conservation
  6. Build a network of people with appropriate expertise in or involvement in kowari conservation and facilitate engagement between them
  7. Coordinate communications on kowari conservation to raise the species’ profile and support conservation actions
  8. Report on the status of the kowari and kowari conservation
